sunday ponderings

sunday ponderings

I would like to start a new carnival here at twentysixcats.

I feel that church is a really important part of growing as a Christian. And perhaps I’m the only one, but sometimes I find it hard to get up and go to church each Sunday – especially when it’s a new church and you don’t really have friends yet. I also have the bad habit of hearing a sermon or teaching, but not really LISTENING to it.

To encourage myself to pay more attention to the great teaching we get at our church, I am going to post every Sunday a thought that I took away from that morning. I’m calling them “Sunday Ponderings”. And I’m inviting you to join me in this. I will try to put up a post every Sunday and if I get enough of a response I’ll get a Mr. Linky.

The point is to encourage everyone to pay attention and listen, and come away from church with something that will edify you throughout the rest of the week. It doesn’t matter if you go to church on Sunday or Saturday or any other day. If you have a policy of not using the computer on Sundays, then feel free to write it on Monday. You don’t have to give a sermon outline; you can post a point that really struck you, or a verse that was read that touched your heart, or a song sung that really moved you. It’s up to you. Whatever works best to encourage YOU to bring something away from your church service.

Here are the rules I’ve come up with:

1. Any participants have to be in personal agreement with the Apostle’s Creed. If you have problems with this, then contact me and we can discuss it.

2. I am not going to monitor any posts for “theological accuracy”. So, read them at your own discretion.

3. I would encourage you to write about a church service, instead of a Bible study or personal devotions.

4. Please, no bashing of other denominations or styles of worship. This is to encourage and edify, not tear down and destroy.

I am looking at feedback from you. Do you think you’ll participate? Do you have suggestions or comments? Let me know! I plan to start next Sunday (Nov. 11th), though I will be gone most of the day so I might not get it up until Monday morning.

“Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Hebrews 10:25
