My WFMW isn’t really Christmasy, but it relates somewhat! The holidays are definitely the time of year when you are likely to have guests in your home. Ever since Paul and I moved into a two-bedroom apartment, we have tried to make a nice guest room. In the last apartment, we had a comfortable and homey setup. I always meant to take pictures, but I never did and then we moved. Now the guest room is currently the “junk” room so I won’t take any pictures. :-) But I did want to talk about the bathroom!

I have often been a guest at other peoples’ houses, with my parents being missionaries, often travel and speaking at churches. When setting up my own house for having guests, I have tried to think about my experiences and copy the positive things and avoid the negative! One of the things I liked was when the hostess would put supplies that we might need. How often do you travel to someone else’s house only to find you forgot toothpaste or soap? Sometimes it’s embarrassing to ask for something, or maybe the hostess has already retired for the night. In any case, I have in my guest bathroom a basket with these types of sundries. I mostly bought things from the trial size section of the store:

In the basket is a bag of cough drops, a toothbrush, toothpaste, disposable razors, lotion, soap, hotel-size bottles of shampoo and conditioner, men’s and women’s deodorant (that they can take with them, of course!), face soap, and mouthwash. I also stocked up the medicine cabinet:

Feminine hygiene products (oh HOW often have I had to ask for these!), ibuprofen, acetaminophen (Tylenol), nasal decongestant (Sudafed), bandages, and an extra contact case. The box of matches is for the candle that’s by the sink.

In the shower, I’d like to keep shampoo and conditioner (I personally don’t like those one-dose small hotel bottles. But, I already have them so in the basket they go!). This can be a great place to put some of your extra CVS purchases. That’s how I’m hoping to restock all of these things!

So now I need some help from you. Do you have any ideas for other things I should include? What are you most likely to forget when you are staying in other peoples’ houses?
